    Absolutely not true. Nearly all amateur bicycle races are held on open roads in the US. They do, however, utilize lead and follow cars, as well as moto-refs, who alert drivers, and corner marshalls who close off intersections when a group of racers comes through, to avoid collisions. Cars can definitely still drive on
