Yeah, I’m in Greensboro proper (fortunately). Outside of Greensboro gets really conservative, really fast. It’s a shame, when I first came to the state for school, we weren’t such an embarrassment. Now, we’re down with Mississippi.

If you haven’t already, you should check out The Red Parts (by Maggie Nelson) where she talks about how white women’s deaths are always press fodder. Her aunt was a serial killer victim, and the book speaks pretty frankly about how nightly true crime shows won’t cover African-American murders.

On NPR, they said that the gerrymandering is so strong that it’s 3 to 1 republican votes, even though most of the state votes Democratic. NC’s always in court trying to deny that it breaks up districts filled with African-Americans into gerry-rigged nightmares.

Pipeline burst in Alabama and it hit the south hard. We were out of gas by Sunday night and they are saying hopefully it will be fixed in a week. HA!

I’d add that Greensboro is also a liberal safe-haven. Our section of the UNC system is trying to fight HB2 and made safe bathrooms all over campus for transgender students. Go about ten miles north, though, and there are PVC crosses dripping with fake blood in people’s yards. Not. Even. Joking.
