I’m disappointed that America was canceled, but not surprised, because the story was unfortuantely just not quite there. But I want to also note this: for all the people in the comics saying that those who want diversity didn’t
“show up,” fuck off. I don’t understand why the desire for diversity is met with such

The deep-seeded hatred for violence is real. I have PTSD and scenes where people hurt others make me physical ill. I’ve had to leave the theater many a time. I hope your son doesn’t self-harm anymore and is able to heal more.

I have awful PTSD from child abuse. While it is crippling (crying in public when you think you’ve done something “bad” like spilling gas at 32 is fucking humiliating), I’ve never hurt anyone, nor has my brother, or my many dear friends and support system who grew up this way. The right arguing that violence is a

I originally saw this story on Buzzfeed, where I was surprised that she got shit for saying this when she’s clearly referring to her private life. 2017 was an atrocious political year, but as a personal year, it was good. I got a paper published in a great journal; my husband and I started looking for a home; the

Uh, ok, but let’s not also get gleeful at the thought of a 16 year old having to face this kind of humiliation, as the original poster was. And rumors versus your fucking dad actually telling you probably feel different.

I don’t think money shields you from the pain of knowing your dad is disgusting. I grew up comfortable, and when I found out that my dad had emptied bank accounts, forged documents, and had nearly caused us to lose our home from simply refusing to pay bills it was shattering. Wealth doesn’t keep you from feeling

I read it to my husband in total disbelief. He praised himself so fucking much.

In the student’s case it was just an absolute refusal to think things through and aghast defiance when he needed to. In any paper where he needed to analyze, he’d just say the author made a great point. When I told him he needed to build a case and explain why the author was successful, he’d just stare at me and say

Yeah, I doubt he even remembers who he spoke to, honestly. He has all the caring of a call-center person told to fill a quota.

I teach college, and the day after the election, I had a pro-Trump kid insisting that the media was “biased.” I was not in the mood and turned the screws, asking him blatantly 1) what that meant 2) how ALL THE MEDIA was biased 3) how they would profit from said bias 4) how CEOS from wildly different backgrounds all

THIS is why I continue to be confounded by any journalist who claims Trump “has a plan” or is just “confounding” our expectations. He’s a fucking bloated idiot. The last president was a constitutional scholar. He doesn’t understand the concept of territories. And everyone in Congress just keeps playing along. Why?????

This is a sub-set of the kind who will, themselves, use Medicare/Medicaid/be on food stamps/be on disability and still fucking vote Republican. They have their base so fucking deluded, but then, this is also the party that’s all for poorly educating the masses, so makes sense?

I don’t get this. The Internet often spoils the whole episode like 3 seconds after it airs. When I didn’t have an HBO account and had to wait for it to all come out, I often knew pretty much everything that happened through headlines alone. And I didn’t care because I’m a dork and like the show regardless.

Like the Dixie Chicks, who were right to criticize Bush, and who lost their careers because a bunch of president-worshipers who couldn’t handle a little critique ran them through the mud. I have to say, as someone who lives in the south, sometimes I just don’t understand it: if the gun worshiping and the religious

Yeah, NPR had another really good report about how this often isn’t even about guns per se but about paranoia of the government taking our rights, which I find hilarious because Trump loves infringing on freedom of the press and protest and on women’s right to choose, but, you know, the 2nd ammendment is the only

And yet lots of countries have managed to figure this out. And, as an actual victim of violence, I can tell you that violence can happen with or without guns, and the vast majority of people who resort to using their gun often escalate that violence. Most murders happen from people you know. Often, if you are a woman,

Yeah, it’s the idea that everyone is still a militia-man, which is laughable because we only had a militia because we had no army yet because we weren’t a nation yet! But people feel like they have importance if they have a gun and don’t understand how silly that looks to people who can critique this situation.

Yeah, it sounded like most people he wouldn’t let but a gun were ranting about their wives. That alone should point everyone to the fact that gun violence is prevalent, but who knows, right? When he said that in the interview I was gobsmacked: who would actually be serious and admit their plans?!

Or that women are killed like 90% of the time by people they know (and men are too) most often by family members and deranged spouses/fiances/etc. who....have a gun!

I’m so sorry to hear that. Growing up with an abusive mom who had a gun (thankfully never used it), I was taught that they are something for cowards to brandish. Real terror teaches you how fast and awful things can be. I’m so glad you lived!
