You are so right. As someone with a mental illness who has struggled with it for ten years, I can say, without doubt, this is not funny, and I think it's disgusting that Jezebel's writers have made a joke out of this girl's mental health issues.

Pretty much anyone who threatens suicide will be put on 5150 holds if the police/emergency services are involved. It's not "common" in that the person has to be a danger to herself or others but non-celebrities are put on this hold fairly often because of the aforementioned suicidal ideation. If Amanda were felled by an illness like Crohn's disease or migraines, it wouldn't be such a source of fascination and joking. Mental illness, though, is ok to laugh at because "OMG CRAZY." I hope for a day when there's no stigma attached to mental illness.

I'm not understanding how a teacher secretly taking sexy pictures of a minor at school is not a criminal act. Most schools have policies on how teachers are allowed to take pictures of their students for things like the science fair. At the very least, this kind of bullshit is more then enough to fire any adults…
