I work for a big SAS business that runs most of our core software on the AS/400 /iSeries / I5os. It is a pretty good platform solid as a rock and big big horsepower. For Transaction processing the midrange/mainframe is pretty unbeatable, and a lot less frustration than a linux cluster.

No way. In 2007 while I was in college in a computer science program, a few older gents in my class had made small fortunes around Y2K as COBAL mercenaries. There are tons of mainframe/ midrange systems out there that need the skill for conversions/debug.

Hey dont knock the AS/400. The newer versions of it are great. The only system I know of you can install hardware hot into the system without bringing it down. I added 32 CPU cores and 2TB of memory into a host a few weeks back. If you want the fastest database engine money can buy its the best. Yeah it can run COBAL
