Back when I was a feminist-Catholic (I lost one of those identities - guess which one), I got so used to referring to God without using gendered pronouns that when I started working at a GLBT legal clinic and I wasn't sure of a person's chosen gender yet, I was amazing at talking around it.

@LadyTudorRose: I have found a little trick: If you have not been formally introduced to someone, it is entirely appropriate say something like: "We have not been introduced. How would you like me to refer to you?" I find that cisgender folk will often assume that you are asking if they prefer to be on a

@JunieBJones: Oh, heavens. He does that? Sabotaging brakes doesn't stop someone from going somewhere - it stops people from stopping. Silly sparklevamp.

@dezirella: I can't even imagine the strength and grace, let alone have it. She really has confronted and transcended her circumstances.

I was once on a corner waiting for a bus, and there were a number of older men sitting on the benches near the stop. They were discussing the recent trade of Donovan McNabb within the division. When I arrived, they all looked up at me (I am white and I live in an almost exclusively black neighborhood - I get this

The only thing that makes me nearly as sad as every single crime post on Jezebel is the immediate reaction of commenters wishing prison abuse/rape/murder on the person based on a three-paragraph wire story (which itself is based on information from the police - not exactly an unbiased source of information).

@Jessybessy: with or without animals: There aren't many. I haven't seen any outside of Scranton. But there was a really old one there while I was in college, and then a brand new one built right after I graduated. In the new one, you can see the whole donut-making process. I once watched my donut from piece of

Interestingly, the study also shows that despite the fact that Roe v. Wade was in 1973, abortion rights did not become a major part of the confirmation hearing agenda until 1981 with Sandra Day O'Connor. Reagan-era culture wars, anyone?

@Jessybessy: with or without animals: I come from Scranton, PA, a northern bastion of Krispy Kreme, with not one but two KK's in the area. That sign is beloved where I grew up.

@GrabAnApple: The Constitution Center in Philly? I live in Philly, too!

@kittenlove: Watching him this year has been a treat. He's really coming into his own. For years now, announcers and pundits have said that he could win a batting title some day. It looks like he has a blazingly bright future.

@flareandglare: It was great baseball. I am generally not a fan of interleague play outside of the World Series (as a life-long AL fan, watching the pitcher hit makes me cringe), but this series has been interesting.

@heartsrevolution: I'm in law school right now, and there are a MILLION things that people in law school will tell you that you just have to do/know. And about 80% of it is complete and utter bullshit. Don't borrow trouble. When your time to apply comes up, even the 20% that may be true is going to be out-of-date.

@HelmetOk: They'll usually tell you who starred you in your profile - it can give you a clue as to who did it.

@Residentdrunkgirl: They did. To be fair, it is a tough lineup to get through, especially when they just saw you the night before.

@HelmetOk: Do you comment on any other Gawker websites? Sometimes you get starred on one and it tells you when you are visiting on another...
