I’m not a LotR fan so I have no preconceived opinions. I guess I’ll be happy with nice visuals and relatable characters. I did like the LotR movie casting, and wouldn’t mind seeing some of those actors back, if it’s possible w/n the prequel format.

Hmmm...nah. They should do women a favor and keep spending all their time on reddit. There are enough jerks out there to sort through as it is.
This is Disney, it’s not going to be anything radically off brand like Godfather in space. I could see it being a bit more grownup-skewing version of Dave Filoni’s animated series and in fact he would be an excellent choice for show runner.
There doesn’t need to be any more Hercule Poirot adaptations now that David Suchet has done them all.
Artists don’t decide what gets shown in movie theaters. Movie theaters do. And they just want the stuff that will fill theaters reliably. They don’t want “art” because art means empty seats.
Straight to video release is one thing, appearing on streaming is another. Nolan is just thinking in antiquated terms. I see better stuff in my Netflix queue than on the marquee of the local movie theater.
Netflix IS a legitimate disrupter. It’s not just labels. Broadcast TV is seeing huge drops in viewership and cable is being hit by cord cutting. Movie box office is down across the board. These are real numbers and real trends. Where are people going? Social media and streaming.
That leaves nothing but superheros and Star Wars for the Oscars. I think it’s likely that the Emmys and Oscars will merge eventually when it becomes clear that the distinction has become artificial and theatrical movies are all videogame-ish VR extravaganzas/
There aren’t many slots available for movies in IMAX and they don’t want the kinds of movies where people stand around and talk at each other while no cars are chased and nothing explodes. Should those movies not exist just because movie theaters won’t show them?
I wonder when the last time was that Christopher Nolan actually sat in a movie theater with regular folks and watched a movie? That might give him a reality check about just how premium the “theatrical experience” really is.
Up his nose would be more his style.
+1 for the good guys! Wow, it’s been a while...
You can’t make Nazi comedy?
Just nibble on the toes and ears. Then you’re in the clear.
The guy playing BTK sure has some job security with Netflix.
The parallel to Kemper’s “spirit wives” was the truly creepy part. Hey Holden, want to be part of our big happy family?
The Eggo Corporation dug her up and brushed off the dirt. That little gal is selling waffles like nobody’s business!
Shareholders seem content with Netflix releasing subscriber numbers because after all, that’s where the money comes from. As long as subscriber numbers keep climbing, there won’t be any pressure for more details. And if subscriber numbers drop, the investors will probably just flee without waiting for details.
Huh? I thought it was self-evident why Netflix would not release their own figures.
Those figures sound pretty accurate, if you consider that plenty of people haven’t finished watching this season (I haven’t even started! just getting to Bojack now) and this is US viewing only. So the true numbers will be significantly more.
