The racy jokes in Blazing Saddles were all about punching upwards. The racists were racist...but presented as idiots. We laughed *at* them because of how racist they were. We could sympathize with the sheriff and laugh with him as he attempted to get along in that world.

It is absurd to complain about people getting offended when the entire purpose of what was said is to offend people. It’s either dishonest or stupid.
