I don’t know about the larger residence in my area. They seem to be the same size if not smaller. And 30 years ago a half acre lot was considered small-ish/average. Now they measure lot size in square footage, they are that small. You can literally jump from roof top to roof top they are that close together.

I read or heard somewhere that the fuel door was opposite of the exhaust pipe. But that doesn’t hold up if you have dual exhaust.
