His mistake is saying anything publicly at all. From a practical perspective he’s trapped. If he speaks out then his family becomes a liability and Putin isn’t shy about seizing assets. If he sticks up for Russia he’s done in F1.  He should just slink off to his family’s dacha and keep quiet.
