The word "anime" is borrowed from French. Also, there is actually precedence for the Japanese themselves calling it "Japanimation" as a means of distinguishing it from "anime" from other countries. The most recent example of this I've encountered was in Outbreak Company.

You can speed up battle animations by pressing right on the control pad and slow them back down to normal by pressing left. It's amazing.
