I’ve only ever had to wait once in line for gas (3+ hours) and that was because of a major refinery was shut down due to hurricane Sandy. Outside this, please tell me how I’ve managed to avoid gas lines for more than half my life.

I’m not sure what it’s like in Illinois, but I have never seen local LEOs on the NJ toll roads mentioned. There’s plenty of interstate highways w/o tolls and they’re under the jurisdiction of both local law enforcement & state patrols.
