The thing is, Ruh-vee doesn't contain any phonemes that aren't used in American English. Also, there is a whole history behind why certain words are pronounced in English the way they are, like Munich versus Munchen(?). I don't take issue with the way Americans pronounce "Cummerbund" or "Bungalow" or "Punch."

For the most part they do. The name Ravi comes from Sanskrit, so even the non-Indo-Aryan speakers in South India pronounce it the same way. Pronunciation is very important in dharmic religions. The only exception I can think of is Bengali and other eastern dialects, which exhibit a vowel shift from ruh- to ro-. Also,
