There was never any evidence that “extinguish” was used by Microsoft. The only use of the word was in testimony from Intel VP McGeady during the antitrust trial 20 years ago.

If Sony “just wants to block” the Microsoft merger, as PS’s Jim Ryan put it, then I wouldn’t expect Microsoft to put any effort into providing content for the PS5

Why is it always seem like everyone acts like it’s a dick move when Microsoft pulls this kind of shit but shrewd and savvy when Sony does it?

Fun Fact! The GoW Ragnarok devs said that they actually didn’t need wall cracks, despite them being all throughout the game. Apparently the cracks are used as gating to ensure that a player stays in a certain area for puzzle elements or landmarks to create a mental map of what zone connects with which.

Neat story, but

As far as I’m concerned, CoD peaked with Black Ops II. I haven’t cared about the franchise in a long time. But I was only ever in it for the single-player campaign.

MS isn’t wrong. Sony has already developed a number of hugely successful first-party IP: Uncharted, Last of Us, God of War, Gran Turismo, etc. At most, CoD comprises maybe 10% of their total console software revenue (and that’s being generous).

Yoshi-P described it in the NoClip doc on FF14 as SE having a mentality in the mid-2000s of hyper skilled swordsmith crafting exquisite products while the industry as a whole was automating a ton of that labor intensive work so they could focus on the rest of the product and save money.

I haven’t worked on a PS game since the PS3 but back then, the X360 was significantly easier to develop for. That’s why it was the lead SKU for almost every multiplatform game.

“their SDKs, optimizations, and tooling, far exceeds what Microsoft offers on Xbox.”

Series X does have a limitation keeping some games from running on it: The Series S.

If you don’t want to try getting a game to run on the Series S (which is a lot weaker and has 37.5% less RAM) then you can’t make a Series X game, because MS requires they work on both.

Now SE is probably full of shit here, but that

I’m getting to that point where I’m thinking Sony is the reason FF7 Remake hasn’t been released on Xbox. At least Crisis Core is on Xbox and the closest I’ve gotten to FF7 Remake on Xbox is the DLC for Powerwash Simulator.

“The Devs went on to say that they were working on innovative programming techniques to get the game running on other platforms, but that at the current rate of progress there probably wouldn’t be a breakthrough until after a contractually obligated timed exclusivity window had expired.”
or something like that.

“It’s not because Sony paid us, definitely not that.  They’re definitely not doing what they’re trying to argue Microsoft would do with Activision games, definitely completely unrelated and not hypocritical.”

Come on man, why do you have to choose to be this lousy and disingenious? Like what is the goal here?

For anyone else reading this: the 360 lead most of the generation, PS3 only caught up and overtook in sales 6 months before the PS4 and XboxOne released. So Microsoft commanded a 7 year lead over Sony in the 7th gen

If you read the very bottom of the original article they state that the issue was internal studio HR was not passing issues up the chain to microsoft. Once microsoft found out about the issue they intervened and conditions improved.

CoD for the last few interactions has already been actively worse on MS consoles due to exclusivity agreements with Sony. This isn’t even just like skins, which is whatever, they’ve had whole game modes that Xbox and PC never got or if they did get it was months or a year after release when the new CoD was coming out.

Actually that would be an EXCELLENT trade to make in Monopoly, since the first three monopolies on the board, with the exception of Med. Avenue and Baltic, statistically are landed on FAR more frequently than Park Place and Boardwalk.  I’d make that trade in a heartbeat and proceed to win with very little effort.

It’s not disingenuous to play the good guy when you are by a country fucking mile the most consumer friendly entity in the games industry.

Sony is insufferable. They lead Xbox in marketshare 2:1 or better in almost every market except the US. Hell, it’s more than 95:5 in Japan. They’re just being pissy about a game that has already been guaranteed to be on their platform for more than a decade into the future. All this does is make them look weak,

Don’t forget that Square also made a timed exclusivity deal with Epic to keep the game off Steam for an additional year.
