Eh, not even that. Impressions from people who have actually played the game have been pretty positive. The hate mainly comes from the Gamergate-types who didn’t play the game and got a brain damage seeing a black woman protagonist.

I’m sure she’s getting some of it just due to being a person of color, but I honestly haven’t actually seen any of the complaints about the game actually referencing her performance. Broadly speaking, the narrative most Gundam anime follow has a young protagonist battling in a cool mech while the show expounds upon the horrors of war between intergalactic nations.

I like Forspoken. I’ve put in a dozen hours at least and I’m not even in the third ‘zone’ and I haven’t unlocked the second magic from the demo. I also have almost capped my Purple spells.

There’s not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that, even if Forspoken had turned out to be a really solid game all the way through, it’d have been completely brigaded by the GamerGate crowd literally just because black woman.

I really like Forspoken. But it’s a case where the beginning of the game is just markedly worse than the mid and especially the end and you really do need to stick with it.
