Sheeeet... had no idea this was an issue. I had a 2010 Jetta TDI and never once had that happen and I live in CT, so we do get snow, rain and cold weather. Doesn’t even seem like it’s a consistent issue either, meaning some cars have the problem and others don’t.

Not every application is great for a TDI.  I had mine for the long work commutes I used to have... then I got a new job 3 miles from home. A GTI handles this perfectly. The TDI wouldn’t even warm up by the time I got to work in the winter.

Have you wandered over to TDIClub.com?  You should be able to find a local TDI nut that can take a peek with VAG-COM.  It might also just need to be thrashed a bit.  And if you’re under 60k miles, the motor isn’t quite yet broken in.  The mileage gets better over 60k.

Yet you ignored a manual, diesel wagon? TDI Jetta Sportwagons are a steal right now. Lightly used, recall repaired and they come with a manufacturer’s warranty. For a person laying down over 1,000 miles a week, that guy needs one.

Why not go with a laminate?  Obviously more expensive, but you can run a clear on the front and red out back.  I slapped yellow over the headlights on my GTI to cut down on glare, but that’s a personal choice.
