I found King of the Monsters to be a pretty terrible movie. As a Godzilla movie it’s... fine. I have an incredibly high threshold and count only 5 or 6 of the movies as truly terrible (which includes the anime movies, which are only recent additions). King of the Monsters dives headlong into the material (and

Pretty much what happened in Godzilla: The Planet Eater, where Ghidorah takes the place of a Lovecraftian creature... but like the rest of the Godzilla anime series I’d never recommend.

I should say I do not want you to feel personally attacked and I realize I may have come off that way.

I mean that’s fine. When I take my 4 year old nephew to it next week I hope he has the same reaction, but outside of “because Godzilla and kaiju are cool” the movie fails on every levels. Plot, characters, action. Felt like Pacific Rim Uprising to me. Having your CG characters do a lot of “too cool for school” things

I love Godzilla. The critics are right though. King of the Monsters is a mess of a movie.

I mean I’m not trying to take anything away from you, but I’m firmly a Godzilla vs Biollante from Heisei. I mean I don’t hate SpaceGodzilla it’s just in terms of quality its definitely the low point for that era and felt kinda the same way walking out of King of the Monsters today.

Now playing

The best thing about this show was I ended up really liking the Swedish band that did a song in one of the first few episodes. The rest of the show was so dour and convoluted I don’t think I finished it.

Yet it’s down near the bottom with Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla in terms of quality film making and plot if we’re comparing it the Heisei series.

I am a hardcore Godzilla fan and I thought the movie was bad. Deserved every ounce of its 40% RT score. Such bad film making across the board.

Time for everyone to whine about Godzilla 2014 while I just roll my eyes. Not enough of you have watched the entire series enough times to say the dumb shit you do about 2014. Truly. I’m not saying put in your top 5, but it’s better than half the other movies in the series.

Gotta say I go to r/godzilla daily and it’s a hard sub to gauge sometimes because how many people earnestly tried to put KotM and Endgame in the same ballpark...

Yeah - but the absolute best ones aren’t about the monster fights. In fact the best ones rarely include other monsters than Godzilla.

Godzilla 2014 is in my top 5 Godzilla films. It hits this sense of scale that hadn’t be achieved. It made Godzilla a scary, powerful force of nature that they say he is in a lot of the films (particularly the Heisei error, that had a wonky tone post 89's Godzilla vs Biollante). I absolutely loved that it was the shark

I do not know what this Drogon is, but it sounds disappointing.

It’s really unfortunate that many of the old suits degraded so quickly. At least they still have a lot of pieces of the 74/75 MechaGodzilla suit tho

This reminds me of the time Guillermo del Toro was supposed to direct At the Mountains of Madness, with James Cameron as producer and Tom Cruise as lead, but then it didn’t happen and the world is a poorer place for it.

It’s gotta be at least the past 10 years, but +1 star because truth.

I really like the dynamic of Scorpia with Catra and the other princesses in terms of generating tension for the audience. Still I fear it’s too toxic to really drag out much longer without coming to some sort of resolution. I hope it won’t lead to the kind of story telling we saw in Voltron. Where the plot will be

You just put way more thought into this than anyone’s put into the Child’s Play franchise in 30 years.

Well if this terrifies you don’t look up “Every Bruce Wayne actor blended together”
