Amy is very serious about gun control, ever since the shooting at a showing of her movie. I think this is just her trying anything and everything she can to try to help. Really, she talks about gun control on her show, she’s given speeches about it and encouraged people to vote for gun control measures. It’s not

I’ve lost seven students to gun violence. I wore orange.

There are articles specifically about Amy Schumer and this picture that mention gun violence, so yes I think a lot of the attention is because of her today. I don’t think that picture of Adam Scott would have gotten the same coverage. And she has done more than bring awareness, she has publicly asked Congress to pass

Yeah, you know stuff like this, the slactivist stuff, is not my thing, but... even just watching her show lately makes it clear that she is serious,* for obvious reasons.

I’ve been involved in gun control efforts since the Million Mom March, and I have no problem with the orange. The idea came from kids who wanted to do something about violence, and they picked orange because it’s the colors hunters wear so they won’t get shot. Basically, wearing orange = please don’t shoot me.

I don’t mind people saying things like that jokingly, but otherwise it feels like benevolent sexism. We need equality, not to be put on pedestals.

The Hays code inspired some brilliant visual metaphors, though. One of my favorites is at the end of North By Northwest, when Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint are shown heading for their sleeper berth... And then there's a shot of the train going into a tunnel. It's not the least bit subtle, and yet it went straight

Nah. I posted this elsewhere, but 1.) I hate when women are referred to as one monolithic group, even if it’s purportedly positive, and 2.) elevating either gender above the other just hurts both genders.

It’s a mess. As someone who suffers from mental illness, I’ve had wrong diagnoses thrown my way, been fucking taken from my home in the middle of the night and HANDCUFFED TO A HOSPITAL BED for supposedly being suicidal when I wasn’t. Long story. But my point is it’s incredibly violating. In my personal case, I’ve

The Thick of It is great! I watch the entire series every six months or so.

Iannucci got Capaldi to squeeze out some many riotous filthy digs on anyone & everyone. Table reads for those scripts must‘ve been a hoot ‘cause just imagine what they threw away for being too over the top.

I haven’t gotten my act together to suss out “The Thick of It” yet, but I’ve probably watched “In the Loop” 15 times now that it’s on Netflix. I wish I was brave enough to make “Fuckity bye!” my go-to way to end a phone call.

I always recommend that people who like “Veep” also seek out “The Thick of It,” Ianucci’s original show. His movie “In the Loop” is also fantastic.

That’s a little weird but it seems like a good enough idea. As a TA, though, I don’t have any sort of resource like the one you’ve described, though I wish I did. Oftentimes, the things about a student that concern you are too small to warrant an email to someone In Charge, but inputting those behaviors into a larger

Iannucci is flat out brilliant. I am so surprised by the greatness of Veep because I incorrectly assumed that type of meanness would not translate to funny with an American audience.
