Unfortunately, cuts in payroll taxes are a reliable way of buying votes. I bet the they have a 1:1 relationship with votes. I’m an avowed lefty, and I know better than most the effect they have on public services - it ruined our public education system. But I absolutely loved getting more money when my govt did it…
