I liked A Darker Shade of Magic! I thought about recommending it, but the series has a decent bit of romance. Tbh, the book I recommended is a novella, so you could probably read it in one sitting.

I have been obsessively reading all of Donna Tartt’s books. Sadly, there are only three, but they are all long. Just finished The Secret History (blew through it because I could not stop reading) and now am on The Little Friend. It’s so descriptive, beautifully written and eerie. She is amazing. Haven’t blown through

Just finished “Pachinko” and loved it so much! Author is Min Jin Lee (female.) If you enjoy multi-generational sagas of other cultures (Korea and Japan), you will enjoy this. Very well written. Highly recommend this author’s previous book “Free Food for Millionaires” as well.

I feel like this is a pretty basic rec but if you haven’t read Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan series, you definitely should. I also really love Ursula LeGuin for sci fi. I couldn’t even begin to pick a favorite of hers, but The Left Hand of Darkness is a classic, and the Earthsea series has some great books in it if

I love all the bizarre books Mary Roach writes. Stiff is probably my favorite though. I also really like Katie Crouch’s books.

I am loving all the Pride festivals near me right now, I just got back from my second fest in two weeks. They are so full of JOY and SUPPORT and LOVE and PEACE that it “fills the tank” back up and makes me believe in humanity again.

Book thread!

Even though the history of literature is filled with novels and essays and memoirs about the asylum, many of which were written by women (Virginia Woolf, Leonora Carrington, Sylvia Plath, Charlotte Perkins Gillman, and Alice James), those works are unusual.

I just went and looked at the wonderful photos in the slide show. These kids looked fantastic and happy and I love those pink shoes so much. The parade of outfits before the Prom is such a great tradition. But it also made me sad to read that some of students had never been to Detroit (an hour away) and it was also

I love this story so much. Look at these gorgeous young people dressed to the nines. I gotta say, black folk know how to glam it up for a special occasion, like the elegant black church ladies in their fabulous Sunday hats. Cheers to them for putting it together so well even with all the adversity they are facing in

This is really relevant to me right now. I saw the Wonder Woman movie, and while it had its flaws, I loved it. Decided to pick up the New 52 run based on a recommendation. I also loved it. Until I got to issue #36, where apparently a new team took over. Wonder Woman went from being someone I admire, with strong

translation: I like woo. Why don’t you like woo too?

I don’t think Ikea is nearly as hellish as the media (aka that 30 rock episode and Jezebel) makes it seem. And I put off going to the grocery store because on the wrong day it will raise my anxiety to unbearable levels. I love the patterns and colors in Ikea, much like I love Target. IDC if it’s basic, it’s so

Never been to one? Give thanks for your good fortune.

Am I the only one who finds my waist is a totally different size when I’m standing than sitting, so a belt is either too tight when sitting or too loose when standing?

What kind of job do I have where a $525 casual dress is something I’d wear to the office?

::keeps shopping at Target until I get millionaire status::

I cannot believe how sheltered these people (Trump supporters (and family)) are. They call US snowflakes while whining (non-stop) on facebook about how mean we are to Trump, TRUMP! A person who built an empire on being mean, a person who whined about Obama for 7 years.

I have no idea how I’ve gone this far in life having never heard that Kevin Spacey might be gay. And I waste way more time than I care to admit reading celebrity gossip.

I feel like, “how do I make friends now that I’m not college-aged” comes up every few weeks, and I’m always hoping for some magical answer. Of course, the actual answer is get out and do stuff with people. But it is so much harder than it sounds.
