I remember a few years ago seeing a history channel show about the US highway system and comparing it to the autobahn with some surprises. For example the asphalt used in the US was said to be good for 10 years or more and was cheap, while the smoother asphalt used on the autobahn is only good for 4 or 5 years max but

@luisthebeast: after driving cross country I was taking the 10 west into the city when a motorcyclist went passed me in between the lanes. I was in the far left and doing about 80 mph which was the speed of traffic (there was a lot) and he blew passed me at at least 95 mph. Just after the 710 intersection traffic
