You’re an asshole because that’s not what we are talking about here. We are talking about racism and police, who are sworn to protect the people no matter their skin color, instead acting violently toward a black woman asking for justice. And you come in here talking about fucking littering?? What is wrong with you??

I agree the DAPL is not at all okay, but it IS absolutely true that pipelines are safer than transporting on the road.

Ugh, this was exactly my experience. My parents’ reaction to me saying (as a straight-A senior in high school) “I want to go hang out with my friends,” was “Why?” as if they genuinely couldn’t understand my wanting to spend time away from the house with people my own age.

I get what you (and the author) are saying, and I think white women have a very important role in reaching out to other white people and getting them on board with social justice and recognizing racism and privilege, so that the people most marginalized don’t have to add that bullshit to the burden they already carry.

That’s true of almost every cause that has ever existed and got attention. I get annoyed at corporation’s greenwashing their products and pretending bottled water is good for the environment, but that doesn’t mean environmentalism can’t move forward. It’s about critical mass and effective action. Playing the

Well said. Most people care most about what impacts their lives and families. We need to target that, and ALSO encourage them to fight for others. I say encourage, not guilt trip. As many years of therapy taught me, guilt and shame are not good motivators.

I hear you and I’m with you. Those are all great points. Some protesters took their first steps as activists today and will continue down that road. Others might run for office. Some might go on with their hectic lives but volunteer to drive people to the polls in 2018. I appreciate all of them. Shaming and guilting

HELL yeah. You rock. It is wonderful you are fighting for what you believe in, no matter when you started, and don’t let anybody tell you different. I grew up with lefty parents, and so went to many protests in my childhood, but am just now getting back into it as an autonomous adult and really enjoying feeling the

AMEN. And thank you for all that you do :)

I completely disagree with that critique. Yes, trans women are women and are a essential part of intersectional feminism, and their issues are important and need to be heard. However, women are allowed to protest about the things that affect them. If a woman has a vagina and uterus and fears her rights related to

I feel you, and I have been having some of those feelings too. It’s really frustrating, and if you point out the need to allow imperfect people to help advocate for causes, some people who view themselves as Gatekeepers of the Left will scream at you.

I’m fairly confident starting my antidepressant (plus therapy) saved my life. And was a great experience with no side effects for the two years I was on it, and now I don’t need to use it anymore! So all in all a wonderful experience. But even if I had needed to switch, or had side effects, it would have been worth it.

That is an extremely dumb and nonequivalent scenario that misses my point, but okay. I don’t really care if neo-nazis or anyone is upset with the guy, and I obviously don’t think that white genocide is an imminent threat.

Agreed. I certainly don’t think it should be taken seriously, but I do think he said it to provoke outrage which is an obnoxious thing to do.

A hobbit genocide could never exist because hobbits aren’t real. A white genocide could exist, and therefore a person could conceivably advocate for it. Which is what the tweet appears to do, if one is not a student of neo-nazi conspiracy theories. The professor says he wants white genocide, not that there is one

I agree with you, and appreciate your ability to look at things with nuance.

Well some people are not well-versed on neo-nazi conspiracy theories, who are not neo-nazis, and they could see his tweet as advocating for a genocide of white people. Obviously the neo-nazi conception of “White Genocide” is not real, but that doesn’t mean there can’t exist a genocide of white people, or that there

You’re probably just an abysmal person. Also, definitely wrong :)

Nope. See liberal enclaves list above, which leaves out quite a few.

Ok, well, both Clinton and Sanders scored in the 90% range on isidewith for me from the beginning, so add my pointless anecdote to your pointless anecdote. She has consistently scored as one of the more liberal democrats in the senate, and many people view tweaking your platform to more accurately reflect your
