A lot of great shows, especially comedies, have mediocre/B-level first seasons compared to the rest of the series, e.g., Cheers, The Office, Parks and Rec. You could see the greatness on the edges of them, but they needed sanding/reshaping. It’s more rare to have a comedy come out of the gate amazing (Arrested Dev).
