Yes, there are certainly QB’s significantly better than Alex Smith now, or with the potential to be better than him in the future. But about 1/3 of these guys are currently a wash with Alex Smith. I’m looking at you:

Of all networks to hate I don’t get his grudge against CNN. They have some of his most despicable and unapologetic neophytes constantly yammering non-sense on that network. (Lewandowski, Scottie Hughes, etc.) If anything they give the most airtime to his brand of insanity.

Alex Smith is average as hell, but I would bet half the league would take him right now as their starter. It’s not that hes some horrible outlier in QB talent. QB play is just sucky in general right now.

I’m really having trouble thinking of what else he could have done to get the penalty for targeting. That had pretty much all of the things you look for. And it’s not like the refs didn’t see it, they gave him a roughness penalty. Bizarre.
