XBox Live Gold is ~$50/yr. With that you get four free games a month - that you own even if you discontinue the service. 12*4 = 48 games per year. If 1/2 or even 1/4 of them are ones you want to play then that is still a huge value. I already have a backlog of GwG games.

I got myself an Xbox One. The last console I bought was a Wii. We now have a 50” HDTV and the Wii looks very sad on it - but is still fun, and I still have games I want to finish (Okami).
