While I appreciate what Tears of the Kingdom did right, it frustrates me that Nintendo can release a game that’s so low effort in so many ways and people will praise the hell out of it. The new systems are fun, yes, but pretty much everything else about the game is as safe as possible.

Another year of me being salty that the new Zelda is ranking so high despite being in many ways (narratively, world-design, dungeons) weaker than it’s predecessor - which I was also salty about the height of its placement the year it came out.

The problem is that 30s really isn’t enough time for award speeches, especially GOTY. Compare that to the 7 minute, completely worthless interview with Kojima and Jordan Peele about OD. If they didn’t have anything informative to say, then they should have just showed the teaser trailer and move on.

This is the game awards people. Its not about heartfelt speeches by awards winners, its about selling those ads and previews!!!!!!

The most baffling thing to me about all this is that it wasn’t just any award. It was Game of the Year, the big one. Whatever your personal feelings and levels of cynicism about award shows is, you’d think that if they’d give time for a big speech to any winner it would be that one.
