TV episodes can be part of a bigger whole, but they can also stand on their own, and to say we can't judge a TV…

That is one extreme. But a TV episode can also be a self contained work of art like an episode of The Twilight Zone. And most episodes fall on some continuum between the two sides. So it's not really a fair comparison, it's a very unique storytelling medium.

I think the best part of this strategy is that every episode felt significant. It felt like there were so many less "piece setting" episodes this season despite the fact that piece setting is on average 70% of a typical GoT episode. It's an effective smokescreen.
This is why I'm glad I don't read the books, I can never be disappointed by what doesn't happen.
It fits into the theme of how nearly everyone will lie and deceive as much as possible to get whatever they can.
It really is a comedic masterpiece, plus it has that underseen cult charm that makes it easy to root for.
