this notion we should blindly believe (or disbelieve) any individual based on their gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or political affiliation needs to stop. Not only is it inherently flawed, it also escalates distrust & division in an already highly divided nation.

I highly doubt Root touches that comment (made by the publicist). The fact is racial & gender discrimination are very real issues in society.. But there is truth to the theory sometimes these issues are not actually in-play, but rather being utilized as a scapegoat (by shitty) people to deflect blame or guilt.
