You’re making the point, not me. I’m just saying the point you are making betrays some fucked up priorities that you should reconsider. Why would you assume this is the only case? There are other cases in “related stories

Youtube is absolutely benefiting from people watching youtube vids; it keeps people on youtube and thus likely coming back for even more later too. Maintaining your consumer base is as important as reining in new consumers.

It is “innocent until proven guilty” only when the state is trying to take somebody’s freedom or life. It is designed that way because of the potential for abuse by the government. It is NOT designed as a code of ethics for corporations.

Really? You “dunno” about that one? One is exploitation of a child, literally anything else is a lesser priority

It’s “innocent until proven guilty” in our justice system - it doesn’t apply to private companies. Nobody’s saying they should go to prison without a trial. Even though the videos have been demonetized, YouTube STILL makes money off the videos and that’s not exactly appropriate, given that many people will probably be

Kids want to do a lot of things that aren’t at all good for them.

A college athlete is an adult doing a job, they’re just being denied status as an employee. A better example is a child actor, but without any of the established roles, rules and laws in place to keep the working child safe. Considering how often those protections are inadequate to prevent abuse already, YouTube is

That or the same laws and oversight that oversee children on TV and film should be applied to digital video services like Youtube.

Do you mean to tell me you regularly go to youtube and watch just one video? If auto-play is on, and you watch one of the videos from this channel, I’d bet that at least one of the “up next” videos has ads. Google wouldn’t keep the content up if it wasn’t making them a profit.

The channel and its videos may no be monetized but curiosity over this case will drive people to YouTube and they may end up watching other videos which are auto-played. YouTube is not stupid when it comes to eyeballs and wallets.

YouTube confirmed the “Fantastic Adventures” channel was demonetized as soon as it found out about the arrests. As of the time of publishing on Wednesday the channel is still up.

Because “innocent until proven guilty” is a legal doctrine only - it has absolutely nothing to do with YouTube’s terms of service. They decide what goes on their platform, and they’re admitting they’re perfectly okay with a credibly accused child abuser’s exploitive videos remaining up. It’s sickening that you agree

The internet might not be such a great idea after all - thanks a bunch, Al Gore

When we’re made aware of serious allegations of this nature we take action, which may include suspending monetization, or, upon conclusion of an investigation, terminating channels.

Kind of fucked up how far into the comments before this got pointed out.

I mean add temporary to disabled and there you go. ‘This channel has been temporarily disabled and the videos removed. This will become permanent in the case of a guilty plea or conviction.’ How about that instead of letting people continue to watch the videos made by this woman, ya know, just in case.

As a father of a 2 yr old, as long as these allegations are proven to be true, this woman needs to be put down. There is no amount of prison time that would rehabilitate someone who has the capacity to abuse children described. The truth could be less severe than what we’re reading though, so we have to keep that in

Demonitizing the account does not mean it’s not still making money for youtube, just that they no longer pass the 1-2% of ad sales to the channel’s creator. So yes, youtube (google) is still profiting off of this child abuse/slavery.

Why the ____ isn’t youtube immediatly blocking that account?  Could it possibly be the ad money the account is making for them?

These channels - the channels with kids starring and adults making money - are nothing but bad news.
