A friend has a PBY for sale. I really enjoyed flying it, and is based at Tamiami airport in FL. It’s been listed for sale on courtesyaircraft.com occasionally. Interior is outfitted for partying. Full bar, etc
Well, handling characteristics of aircraft are hard to convey well with one sentence or adjective. I’ve never flown it with stores or drop tanks attached. Mustang had one of the first laminar flow wings as I recall. In WWII it was being flown mostly by guys with the minimum amount of flight time necessary to get them…
I assume so, as I have never heard of that problem. Of course, no one flies them like they did in combat. Then, it was just a tool for war. It was flown very hard in order to win and survive. Later, they were only worth their weight in scrap aluminum. Now, they are multi million dollar flying pieces of history. Even…
My favorite aircraft to fly. Gets a little heavy on the controls at high speed, but wonderful overall.
Porsche. 917, 956, 962, etc...
Front wheel drive? No.
Yes. That is epic!
Agree completely. Currently running 1098R for track work. Won't stop dragging knees until the body forces me to.
Beautiful. I have a Red/Silver F4-1000R that I occasionally just stare at with a drink and a cigar.
Having done track time in Formula Ford, Porsches, Corvettes, Vipers, etc... I won't go back to them until I can't physically ride the bike anymore. Knee down at 120 mph makes 4 wheels seem boring and tame by comparison. Fast cars are fun, but bikes>cars.
Often, and especially with a helo this size, you create much less rotor wash by rolling instead of hover-taxi'ing. Don't blow over/damage as many objects and people that way
That video was Norfolk or Corpus, can't remember the details of each locale. Got to fly the 53 once with some friends of friends in HM-15. Monster. Good fun for a fixed wing Naval Aviator. Have to say the 60 and the twin Huey were a little more enjoyable
GM’s corporate history over the last decade was a factor in deciding on Ford when I decided to get a 1/2 ton segment truck a couple months ago
Regarding the title: I said you need an aircraft to go fast. Mach 1.64 is my personal record, although 165-170 mph on a bike down the straight at Texas World Speedway “feels” faster.
The fastest I’ve been when size/mass is taken into account, is the USS Enterprise. Don’t know what her top speed was, but I saw 36 Knots.
Ran across a few boats with the 7 Marine outboard engine on them on the water in Miami. I saw one with 3 of those engines and said “Damn, that’s like $200K in engines alone”. Within a month, I saw a large catamaran with 4 on them:) Miami....
I agree on the Ford GT. Speciale and maybe Nismo will hold their value, but not appreciate in the next 10 years. Porsche will over produce the GT4, but it's value could go either way imo
Can't wait for the next COTA track day, as I will be there on the 1098R. The most fun you can have with your clothes on. Even better than flying a fighter, in my experience
Of all the high performance things I've flown, driven, ridden, and fired... The Mustang is my favorite.
