@Shinta: Champloo? Only from an indirect musical standpoint (Shoji Meguro seems to be on a rap kick, but so is Japan's youth right now). It's more combining Persona 3-4 and Nightmare on Elm Street. It looks like it'll be more psychological thriller, which admittedly is a newer direction for jRPGs.

I think psychological thriller is a good direction to take jRPGs.

Though I DO remember it being the first time on a console RPG that I saw 5-figure damage. Casting Cure on the final boss did random damage (and sometimes actually healed it), but it could get in excess of 23,000+ damage.

Such a harsh life, attempting to live constantly pretty while nestled in a sea of gnashing teeth.

After looking up 'buraku', I found it interesting how ancestry whom were executioners, undertakers, (people who traditionally performed necessary-yet-undesirable professions) ect. still held significant relevance today. Not surprised of course (also given to the cultural focus on ancestry).

It'll be retroactively released in 2002. If you didn't remember to go back and get it then, you're just SOL.
