@stranger: Because only 1337 hard0r3 gam3rz should be allowed to enjoy video-games. DUH!

@Chewmieser: Thing is at the volume those guys can expect to sell $50 is probably a good "break-even" price. If the App Store improves their volume they can bring the prices down.

Amazon pretty much always. The prices are generally cheaper than anywhere else plus I have an Amazon rewards card which gives me triple points on Amazon purchases.

@Leanid: "I find it hard to believe that living through two world wars has had no impact on his writing"

@Cagnazzo82: Sweet Jesus do you people bother to read before commenting?

@Pani: Ah so now your argument is that Tolkein is racist because everyone was racist? Bullet-proof logic there son.

@Leanid: Like I said, the "parallels" you see are just fitting data to the conclusion. Anyone can do it to anything to make it say what they want. That doesn't mean that's what the text is actually saying.

@GamerKT: Do you realize what the Japanese did in china and Korea?

@Lucalain: People fear dying, not the state of death. There is a difference.

@capeo: Immediately after writing that post I thought to myself "God I know way too much about this stuff."

@Lucalain: Death is a happy moment for the person dying. It's only unhappy for those of us they leave behind.

@MrPerson: Kind of shows you how much a work can improve with subsequent drafts doesn't it?

@GamerKT: I saw more overt parallels to the Empire of Japan, actually.

@Leanid: This is such an absurdly obvious case of fitting the data to your conclusion. Sauron was a lily White Whitey before he is exiled. The Valar make him incapable of disguising himself as anything beautiful again, so when he manifests once more he takes on that scary armored appearance he has when LotR comes

@capeo: BOOM! Roasted.

@PackOfHighly: 99% of EVERYTHING is crap. The first caveman to bang stuff together and make music cannot be held responsible for Ja Rule just as Tennyson cannot be held responsible for half the content on LiveJournal.

@theloverly: They want to be able to re-re-re-re-re-re-release their older works over and over again. Disney has cultural cachet and everyone has a favorite Disney classic movie that they will buy for their own children when they have them. It benefits Disney to be able to rake in profit from each generation.

@Helvetica: Maybe, maybe not. There is a Tolkein trust that can copyright just about everything about Middle Earth if they cared to. That way the actual work itself passes into the public domain, but nobody can produce derivative works using that world without the permission of the Trust.

@tedknaz: No he can't. Mickey Mouse is trademarked by Disney. Trademarks never expire for as long as they are in active use.
