    Am I mis-remembering that the show used to at least have a sense of humour or am I mixing it up with the British series? This season was 13 episodes of joyless, humourless, dull nonsense.

    It's per series (ie what Americans call a season). The Beeb is a public service broadcaster not a commercial station.
