I believe the original article needs to add this quote, so people stop screaming “but black and asian only mods are not deleted”.

Gender is very much up for interpretation. Genetics are much more complex then you want to see. Fe/male are the binary that served primitive evolutionary purposes. But some day soon we’ll need to move past that narrow scope.

They can do whatever they want to it. The game is not some sacred object that can’t be altered or changed in any way. It’s art, it can be changed by anyone at any time.

I’m your initial post the gender and race of the player charactr are integral to the story.

What are you talking about? Link has huge personality. Remember when he went “Hyaaaaat!”? That defined my child hood.

I still get chills every time I hear “Hup!”

I changed the color of Triss’ hair in Witcher 3 to match what it was in Witcher 2. That make you angry too, fuckwad?

You’re kind of contradicting yourself by using the term “imagine” then saying that the kid should just follow the story without thinking or suggesting any changes.

Name one aspect of the gameplay that becomes different if Link wore pink.

“You’re playing as Link. Link is a male as per the game design.”

The character, per the developers, is an amorphous player avatar that’s supposed to be as bland as possible. It’s the explicitly stated reason for why they won’t make Link talk.

The character is not real. The character can therefore be anything anyone makes them to be.

Granted, Link has always been a silent protagonist, so seeing him as a player avatar, rather than a full person, makes sense. Heck, you can even type-in your own name instead of using “Link”.
So changing the gender-related words will help that much more.

Name one aspect of the gameplay that becomes different if Link isn’t a boy.

I too hate being nice to my children , and would wish upon them nothing but woe.

Well, it has a point to a lot of people that are underrepresented in video games, whether you “see the point” or not, it doesn’t really affect you either way, so why is it that you felt the need to respond negatively to a father trying to give his daughter the same opportunities he had?

You know those are two different issues, right? Women can consume media and consider some of the content alienating. Not to mention we still don’t know what types of games are being played and where gender disparities exist and why. All this study really does effectively is clarify “sure teenage women play video

It’s not that “girls can’t speak because they’re girls,” it’s that “girls can’t speak because they are quickly made to feel horribly uncomfortable and sexually targeted.”

“Yer so awesome GamerGirl, you’re the awesomest and the prettiest! <3 <3 <3.”
“Yeah, er, I need you to treat me like everyone else on your team, that is, like a generic looking army dude holding an assault rifle who’s about to capture the objective but you keep distracting me...”
“OH MY GOD YOU ARE SUCH A BITCH, I WAS

This is actually very true, the second situation is worse. When put in this situation as the girl, you feel the expectation that you should be flattered when in fact you are probably annoyed and very aware that the rest of the players might be too. If you are nice about it they might feel reaffirmed and keep going. If

Two situations that tend to pop up. Either girls are condescended to or plain abused. Or. They are smothered with adoration to a sickening degree.
