I think I may have been lucky then, to have read the books after seeing the first season, since I was coming at it from the perspective of "MUST KNOW MORE!!" and not, "Oh wow, they really screwed the pooch on that interpretation."

The show is what got me into the books- at the end of the first season, I thought to myself, "BUT! MORE!! I need to know more! I want background! I want to know the things that couldn't be fit in! MORE GOT!!!" And then devoured the books. I've found that HBO has been doing a really great job of adapting them. Yes…
