She was speaking out against abuse in the Catholic Church long before it was well understood. She was persecuted for her efforts to stop child abuse. Her career suffered because she spoke out against the abuse.

Tearing up a picture of the pope on live TV might not have been the best way to call attention to the church’s various abuses. Then again, it’s only a photograph; it’s not like she physically attacked the pope or called for violence against him or Catholics more generally. People’s obsession with symbols is weird.

I’m always confused by why so much of the debate around pronoun stuff centers around the idea that it could not possibly be confusing or far more difficult to communicate things via text if we essentially do away with our plural pronoun.

It’s almost like being the President of the United States is an important, influential position, who’s decisions actually have consequences, and there’s a downside to having that position filled by an selfish, ignorant, compulsive liar.
