Except there are plenty of cases and good examples where writers opted to tell AND show and the story turned out just fine.

I also hoped that there would be another interesting investigation into Dexter's murders in the final season with him eventually being publicly discovered, especially after like the fourth or fifth person that expressed suspicion towards him died suddenly.

It got a little tiring by the very end, but in the beginning I actually really liked a lot of Dexter's narrations. I'll admit it was at its best when it wasn't taking itself seriously, because a lot of Dexter's observations in the books and show are actually some pretty funny dark humor.
