But you’re still going to be horrible and wrong at us from Nicaragua, right? ;)

My affection for Disick just went up. Rihanna is magic.
This is the greatest image I’ll see this week. Pictorially it’s all downhill from here.
Morrissey thinks the state of pop music “can’t possibly get any worse.”
this picture defys gravity
At least Morrissey isn’t saying that Black people control the charts at the expense of white indie artists like he did in the 80s (surprise, Morrissey is an asshole).
I agree that we cannot expect 15-16 year olds to just jump in and jump the guy who was raping her. What I disagree with is grown-ass-adult Joan Jett saying it did not happen. I wouldn’t blame her for being in shock or just not knowing what to do as a kid: I blame her for denying it happened now that she is almost 40…
But she never said it didn’t happen. She never disputed any aspect of the account except to say that she didn’t witness it. We can’t know if that’s true or not (and as many, including Fuchs, have pointed out — Jett could have witnessed it and not remembered it for any number of reasons).
That statement was as important as her original. What a woman.
This. This is what I was thinking, but better stated. Thanks.
Wisdom is hard-earned.
I’m finding that it’s difficult for me to fully point the finger at Joan though. This was her manager, a person in a position of power over her and her bandmates, and I’m guessing that she was under the influence of something that night as well, and may not have been sure of what she was seeing. I’m not trying to…
Wow. To show such compassion to people who are essentially calling you a liar about having been the victim of a brutal crime is admirable. To redirect the finger pointing back to the perpetrator of the abuse and away from those who witnessed it shows amazing understanding and is exactly what we as a society need right…
Totally. What a strong, forgiving perspective she has.
I literally just stared at the screen for five minutes trying to figure out how to express how I felt, then defeatedly hit “Cancel.”
Teenage girls (well, okay, probably teenage boys, too) are pretty easily manipulated by the desire to appear cool, tough, sophisticated, down with the scene, etc — basically to live up to whatever expectations are being set around them. I think it’s the entire reason that age of consent laws are a thing: we know it’s…
“in my mind” I didn’t rape anybody is a real Cosby-level excuse
Cherkis points out, too, that Fowley always denied sexually abusing The Runaways, quoted in a 2013 band biography as saying, “They can talk about it until the cows come home but, in my mind, I didn’t make love to anybody in the Runaways nor did they make love to me.” And that may be right, in that “love” is no one’s…
