As long as you can get parts a lot of old tech is more reliable.  Also old stuff with discrete components is more easily repaired.

If it could detect it, it shouldn’t warn you not to touch the car, it should disconnect so no power is flowing at all.  Then it can warn you that there is something wrong with the connection.
