I like to bait trolls a bit and laugh as they try to get me upset and angry, they may think it's the other way around but in a sense I'm just making them run around in circles and there are plenty that are easy to lead on in the exact direction you want, like a pet chasing a laser pointer. It's just as fun and just

My favorites are the ones who can link even the most mundane thing to being a failure of President Obama. My guilty pleasure is reading comments on Yahoo! News. One-stop shopping for current issues regarding government conspiracies and the war on whites/Christmas/freedom/men/SUVs....etc.

I used to troll quite a bit. There certainly is an art to it but if you've done it, you can learn to recognize it more easily. It's not for everyone and the meaning is lost on some people who think anyone who disagrees with them is a troll.

Back when I used to faff about on Fandom Wank, I learned some great techniques for dealing with trolls — probably because that place is pretty much designed to be a well-insulated space where you can unleash your inner troll without hurting too many people. The expert trolls hang out there, and amateurs get eaten.

This trolling shit has gone TOO far. People are terrified & barricaing themselves inside their paranoia. The ever looming threat of trolls has so permeated nay poisoned our culture, we are unable to trust one another or even ourselves. Sudenly our ability to make reasonable judgements is hindered, dampened and deeply

Where's the line between troll and someone that brings up unpopular but relevant perspectives or arguments?

Just trollin' dude :)

Sure, it's a bit of a run-on, but it makes perfect sense to me. Anything in particular?

I agree with your first comment in principle; though I don't have time to get into your specific examples.

the articles themselves are trolls. and jesus is the resident troll at gizmodo. the editor in chief is the troll at destructoid, and ben is the troll at ars.

I love the cartoon. I can recall several instances where I was venting to my wife about something stupid someone said on whatever forum. Quite fairly, she looked at me like I was a complete idiot. For me, it's all about getting caught up in the microuniverse. For some reason, it is just *so important* that I tear

I was a known female on World of Warcraft that frequented the forums for a while. It was pretty easy to be untrollable - just don't give a rat's ass. Point 3 of this article is spot-on. Respond to everyone but the troll and if addressed directly just tell them you don't care what they think. This is the internet.

Trolls have been with us before the internet but I don't think they were ever so understood until the net allowed us to see how they operate in a step by step fashion. I've met plenty of trolls working in retail and worse still there's one in my immediate family, he never goes near the net, and I've never seen how to

I can't respond to GetOutOfBox so...

To...? To what?

From observing both myself and others, I have come to the conclusion that to truly deal with trolls both internet and meatspace, there needs to be a fundamental shift in perspective regarding the self, which is to say, no one gives a fuck what your opinion is. When a troll is being an obvious troll, realize that

This is the best tool the article provided for my response.

Dude, I was talking to a friend of mine at school about that exact same XKCD!

In the "Don't feed the trolls" section: "after all, they're singular goal is to get attention" should be their, not they're.
