I love how she was up and ready to fight as long as there were security guards there! Girl, just stay down. I see this so many times where I work. HS kids will go toe-to-toe for 5 minutes and do nothing but bark, but the minute a security guard starts to break them apart, they act like they are ready to fight.

“Hey, Torquemada, what’s an affray?

“You don’t hit somebody that’s pregnant.”

Somebody hungry for a knuckle sandwich and a bottle of punch?

Unsolicited advice from someone who survived a very necessary estrangement from her own mother: beware of anyone who attempts to convince you that you should be able to look past this. I wish someone had told me 20 years ago that “blood is not thicker than safety.” Thank you and good luck.

Another update: It was decided a few hours ago that a recall election will be held against Mayor Karen Weaver, who it turns out has been something of a dictator who doesn’t work well with others. Challengers have until August 14th to file to run against her in the November recall.

2020? Fuck, that’s a long time.

LOL...but I run home and get free as soon as I can.

You have a very convenient memory , when Oprah spoke up about that incident and racism in general a lot of white folks were mad and turned on her insisting she was lying over sensitive and “ well how did she expect the girl to know who she was “ which isnt even the point.

All true. Thank you for putting to words what so many of us feel and know not how to express. As a tall black man I tried to defer to people (read white) so as to appear less threatening. It wasn’t until I reflected that white guys dressed how they wanted, walked how they wanted, spoke how they wanted that I realized

I *hate* it when I hear the word “uppity.” A college friend often uses that term. I always call her attention to it, but it’s reflexive on her part. Grrrr.

and yet oprah got profiled in a boutique and told she couldn’t afford their damn purse. try again.

First, this was beautiful. Thanks for writing it.
