Really? While historical awareness probably has a role, most of the arguments I've heard put it as the finest and most influential work of social and political satire in American history.

Except...in Huck Finn the n-word is historically realistic, and it's used by racist characters who the book condemns for their racism. So editing it out is stupid.
To me this will be a success if it gets kids to either want to see or better yet get involved in local theater and musicals.
Good. Fuck him and his Bieber hair.
I was thrown off by the ingenuity. You have been gifted with a shiny blue star!
.........thankfully he'll be away for another two months, because it'll probably take that long for me to forget the term "vagina callous"
I have a very comfortable and secure life now, and I just do my dreams on the side. :) Although my dream of having a front path lit by Candy Cane lights has come true. Livin' the dream.
This is why I love Jezebel. There is nowhere else in the universe of interneting where I could've heard these two words together.
I did art and stuff for 12 years. Started loving it, ended up hating it in the end and it took me a long time to be able to draw for myself after. Now I'm in healthcare and I feel fulfilled, really. I'm well paid, I do good and although there are bad parts of the job, there's a lot of awesomeness too.
maybe it built up some resiliency. I know I can enjoy/tolerate more when I get it on the regular, vs when Mr Pies comes home after a month of more away.
Agreed. Find a job that you can deal with from 9 to 5 and don't take your work home with you so you can enjoy all the shit having a job brings you.... That is my approach anyway!
I think the trope makes people think they're doing life wrong if they aren't making a living off of the things that make them happy. The idea of doing what you love is a completely modern invention, fueled by celebrities, internet moguls, and lifestyle brands.
Webcam masturbation. :P
Yep, basically. I quit the job I loved (teaching) because I could never let it go. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, and I could barely afford to live. Now I do something I like fine and get paid and go home at a reasonable hour and enjoy my life. Do what you love was the worst possible advice I ever took.
two words, web cam :)
I'm performing a job (not a career) that I enjoy. I don't take it home with me at night and it requires a 15 minute commute by bicycle.
Most of us will never find a job we love, so I think that we should aspire find a good life/work balance. A friend of mine is a huge film geek. He sees hundreds of movies a year and travels all over the country going to film festivals. He's also in the Air Force and though he's done quite well there, he looks at it…
RIGHT? Laying around my house pestering, sexing up my husband, making noise, climbing the occasional tree, how is that a career path? Well I suppose we could do amateur porn but he would have to agree and I just don't see that happening.
I think people need to stop trying to sell the idea that the only job worth doing is one that you love, that you should do what you love. I think it's a pernicious and nasty thing. We can't all have jobs doing exactly what we love. And even if we could, maybe that's not a great idea. I tried that- I was a designer,…
I'm 42 and as much as I'd like for someone to pay me to what I like to do... no one is going to pay me to lay on the couch with my dogs all day. (Dammit dogs, start pulling your weight around here, I mean jeez, these bully sticks are free you know!)
