Aliens in America is probably the best indicator, Gog and Magog were creators and showrunners. Theres some mixed opinion on whether it encourages optimism for Community S4, it's not a very funny show, I thought some moments were clever satire but the more I see the more it feels like the shows morals are just twisted.

I was originally going to buy the DVDs for season 1&2 while waiting for season 4, now I dont want to give NBC or SONY any money. Is there still a good reason to buy new or should I just get them used?

NBC would have to admit to having made a mistake, which is probably the least likely thing to occur even with all the contracts signed and legal obligations and cost of reversing the decision.
