Both of you in the same comments section! Wow!
They actually answered that question in this episode. Missy said that two Time-Lords sharing the same time and space throws the space time continuum out of sync so that they can't form memories of the events that transpire. Of course they broke this rule in the very same episode as Missy remembers what she told…
David Bradley was absolutely fantastic in An Adventure In Space and Time. I am super excited about and looking forward to his performance as the first Doctor for that reason. I fear he may even be my favourite actor to play that incarnation. Probably a bit early to judge though.
