The problem with these names is that all of these actors are too high profile to accept the role for the money the BBC will likely offer. Who had heard of Eccleston, Tennant, Smith or Capaldi before they landed the role? You need to think character actors, not leads.

One of the few good set-pieces and concepts in the movie is when Lawrences character almost drowns in the space swimming pool when the ship loses its artificial gravity.

Someone would take that job too. There are people willing to go to Mars now even though it would almost certainly result in a quick miserable death.
