Genuine question, but shouldn’t we be pushing for just “universal paid leave” instead of “family” leave? Everyone should get the same paid leave regardless of your family circumstances. That way we don’t pit the marrieds against the singles against the parents against the childfrees.

I would like to donate my fucking taxes to a stranger's medical expense, can we not figure out a system for that...oh right, they do this in Canada.

The thing about sad songs is that they say so much.

They are pushing so recklessly hard and hate the fact that I’ll probably have a good relationship with Putin.

Have you seen “Burn After Reading?” Frances McDormand’s character has a whole subplot about the DC dating scene. The whole movie is hilarious and I tell everyone to watch it, but you’ll probably love that bit.

Given that time is the only thing you literally cannot get back, I would rather give money than vacation time. I have arranged my life around the ability to save time for important things (to me). I live downtown, in a tiny home, so I don’t spend time commuting, I shop online, etc. Leisure is my absolute goal in life.

Yes. Like, I’m glad people are doing this in face of the unjust system we have, but the lesson we should take from this isn’t “aww, isn’t this nice!?” but “how fucked up is this??”

I feel the same way about successful gofundme campaigns and the like. If you have to raise money so you don’t die because you can’t afford

Yeah, I definitely respect the people who are willing to sacrifice their PTO so someone can take maternity leave, but I get disheartened when the reaction to it is, “How nice, look at how well individualized/private donations work! Let’s keep encouraging people to stuff like this!” rather than,”How nice! But why don’t

Possible responses for the next time:

Americans, we sure love our feel-good stories about living in a capitalist dystopia!

And unfortunately too many people will interpret that commercial to mean “See, you don’t need the government to guarantee sick/family leave, pay, or health insurance. Let the free market decide.”

I live in Sweden. We get 480 days of paid leave per child. All pre- and postnatal care is free, health care, dental care, prescription medication and in most places, glasses, are free until you turn 18. Daycare is subsidized and based on income, so you never pay more than 3% of your income for the first child, 2% for

She was, and then she got fired. But she's a Serena Joy in training so I'm not surprised.

This and the GoFundMes for people to be able to afford basic life-saving medications/surgeries

You’re in DC, aren’t you? It seems like an especially bleak singles scene. A DC friend (formerly of DC; she finally gave up after sweating out seven years down there) told me once that when she was in her mid-30s she placed an ad somewhere looking for a guy “about the same age” and got a reply from a guy who

When I was single, my friend and I did speed dating. Events were broken down by age group. We were in the 30-40 group. There was an, uh, older gentleman who attended. I don’t know how old he was, but he was definitely not in the appropriate age group. When I met him, he told me he was retired. I mean, I already knew

This same guy probably thinks his favorite stripper is also really and truly into him. But she really is though!!!!

STRAIGHT LIKE A FOX

They believe that the women’s movement has discriminated against them.

We are truly through the looking glass. These women are complaining to the people they’ve built their lives on oppressing that those they’ve oppressed haven’t welcomed them in a warm enough embrace. With a straight fucking face.
