My Dog Is A Pirate

My wife is in the military and was considering re-upping (for education purposes) up until the events of the past two weeks. Now there’s no way in hell she’s going to serve this administration. We’re basically just holding our breath until May and hoping she can get out safely.

Of course they knew that, that was the point if their comment. It’s crazy that one of the wealthiest nations has such a disparity in income level that professional soldier is the only choice for some people to make a living. Fight or die? That’s madness.

I, along with every other veteran or service member has risked or could have been ordered to risk our lives so you can say such stupid, irresponsible bullshit.

By saying they should do something else, he’s specifically addressing these people:

You don’t know how the military works

This is a spectacularly burning take. Go overseas and risk your life to kill people who don’t deserve to be killed in the off chance that you’ll be given the chance to refuse an unconstitutional order. Voting is not the military, when you join up you LOSE right’s, you don’t gain them.

This. As a veteran and Federal Employee, I can tell you that I worked with far more shitbags on Active Duty than I do now. Also, it’s hilarious how the USDA has to account for every inch of toilet paper in their bathrooms, yet the DoD can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want under the guise of “national

Thanks for sharing this. Well put and I hope your Nephew stays safe.

I want somebody dumber than myself to explain why the right gets to own the “Good to the Military” label when they’re likely to put them in harms way, and not take care of them when they get back. Notice, I never said the Democrats were great to the soldiers, but they do try to limit the conflicts and offer lip

What kind of country which has basked in unbelievable wealth and good fortune for at least the last hundred years has a social structure in which someone’s only choice is to become a professional soldier?

I’m torn. I’m a veteran of the 1st Iraq Shit Show and the Cold War. I didn’t join out of patriotism, I was in a crappy small town and I wanted out. It worked. Being the military actually MADE me a Liberal. (Kind of hard to hate people for the color of their skin when you share a life with them, hard to hate

Not buying it for a second. They’re just learning from their uproarious mistakes, now simply biding their time to keep the peasants from revolting.

Loving all the internationall solidarity - we all have way more in common with each other everywhere than we do TPTB anywhere.

That’s an actual Thomas Merton quote.

I’d go with: “If you’re seeking to embrace Christ, stop being such a Godforsaken cunt.”

As I posted in the other thread...

We as a society need to stop overblowing how people who join the military are “heroes.” Meanwhile, federal employees (civilians) are seen as wasteful and useless (see recent EO freezing federal hiring and increasing military). People join the military, I think, for as many self-serving reasons as they do for public

My cousin bitched about being called a bigot because he voted to “defend the defenseless unborn.” I’ve been sorely tempted to post all this shit on his wall screaming “THIS IS STANDING UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN, YOU WEAK ASS FUCKER!” and “IF THE FUCKING UNBORN ARE YOUR ISSUE AND EVERYONE IN AMERICA ISN’T, THEN MAYBE

Paul Ryan is such a spineless weasel. I can’t believe that people like him and Mitch McConnell are supposed to be keeping Donald in check.
