I feel like this is insane. I like his art plenty. But there is no way anyone is paying a half million dollars for that art from someone who has never sold a piece of art before, unless they are hoping to buy influence one way or another.

It’s alright and obviously influenced by Gustav Klimt.
When I was in college, I was going to be an “artist” and so I actually bought canvas, paints, etc. Christ, I couldn’t even make something mildly abstract. I like his stuff and as with all art, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. And don’t say you could have done it because you couldn’t have and moreover, you didn’t.
NBC’s coverage is always garbage jingo bells, from start to finish. They lose interest in someone who they puff up but “fails” to win the big prize. They cover it still like it’s the fucking Cold War too, and the Americans are trying to prove we have the best way of life or something. I find so much of their coverage…
I dont know if I agree that the twisties is physiological. I would argue it’s psychological because it has more to do with the connection between your brain, its relationship to the space around it and the movement you are trying to do.
meanwhile back here in Boring Reality, my kid was just told she has to start wearing a mask again for school in the fall because this place is full of fucking idiots who refuse to wear masks or get the jab because “you’re not the boss of them.” wake me up when their yachts collide with each other and burst into flames…
THIS. This This This. This.
Never lets me down.
Well said. A lot of the girls from the Karolyi era have come forward to be honest about how miserable they were. Once a sport stops being fun, let alone safe, anyone should be able to quit without hearing it from every armchair athlete out there.
Can we maybe also acknowledge how the deification of athletes like Biles by some in the media (including on this site) may contribute to the immense weight of expectations? For a relatively young person to constantly hear herself described as some kind of superhuman and a standard-bearer for black women athletes, for…
They do this on every olympics. They hype one of the girls up and she always fails to do as well as they thought she should have. Happened to Biles four years ago, she didn’t get the Gold on Beam and so she failed.
They also hyped the super young Dominique of that video above (which OMG, she should have been taken…
It implies it was ours by right. An attitude that sums up everything wrong with America.
Seriously...even if someone truly feels that way, it wholly ignores the fact that much of the reason the gold was ours to lose was: Simone Biles. How quickly some people have turned on her in hard times, forgetting all the work she did and the glory she already won for the US, makes me ill. What a pile of garbage.
They call that the old “Catholic Church switcheroo”
Yesterday during his opening sentences on ABC Nightly News, Lester Holt said the US Women’s team “lost the gold,” rather than “won the silver.” I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t seen it myself. I’m surprised no one has given him grief about it yet. It was incredibly unprofessional for a veteran TV presenter.
Again, if something goes wrong a gymnastics athlete could die. We have people who won’t take a perfectly safe vaccine to save their own lives and those of others, and you expect an athlete to risk death for their teammates for a competition that only has meaning because we decide it does.
Sucking it up and trying if you’re a swimmer or basketball play may look like a slower time, or a sub-par performance. Sucking it up and trying when you’re a gymnast can mean serious injury, paralysis, or death. She made the right call and her entire team supported her and went on to kick ass themselves.
Sadly, they’ll just cash out and keep their heads down for a while until one of their fellow bros at another company offers them a new gig.
I agree with every single word of that. I really believe we’re fucked, and my kids will be living in a Fascist Lite country that incrementally inches toward full-on fascism. And I’ll die in that country. I don’t know how we get out of this.
A lot of people out there went to one awesome party senior year in high school and seem to spend the rest of their lives trying to recreate it.
