I think porsche, somehow, against all odds has remained porsche. It would be an outlier for those kinds of acquisitions though.

Is the thermostat housing still made of fragile plastic? do the vanity mirror covers still break? Is the timing chain tensioner still too small? Do the suspension bushings go bad in 40k miles? The A/C? Do they still burn 1qt of oil every thousand miles? Are the hood releases made out of hand-bendable metal?

IDK. You have to prove the sub would have actually worked in the first place before you pose what-ifs about actually worse situations. I mean there is some question to whether it would have worked at all.
