I had a dental hygienist tell me that no, you should floss before brushing your teeth. All those years I spent yanking out bits of food back onto my just-cleaned chompers.

@meehawl: i like how the one girl boots up... dun dun dunnn Windows 95! brilliant!

@Techno_Paladin: For these kinds of questions part of the point is to see how the interviewee handles uncertainty and makes assumptions. So you start with a baseline that you pull out of your ass, like world population or # of cars on the road and work down from there.

I prefer to cold brew green tea overnight in the refrigerator. No need to boil water and it's ready to go in the morning.

@kschang: I happen to love the fact that the East Bay is locals only.

@ovirto: This is so true! I second every point you've laid out here. Preheating a wok is a necessity for getting any 'wok hay' on American stoves.

@kftgr: stickiness is usually a sign that the patina is too thick, meaning improper seasoning.

@Wabbited: this is partially true. The starchiness of the rice makes it soak up oil and stick to the wok and burn. Since you traditionally use leftover dry rice the egg also helps to moisten the rice, this coats the kernels which supposedly keeps it from sticking (think french toast).

Now if anyone had a recipe for Wattie's sauce then I'd totally go through the trouble of making some.

I recently started using Anki ([ichi2.net]), which is an open-source algorithmic flash card application. You could really use it to study anything but it really shines with language learning.

@jrs: Don't know about China, but in Japan the traditional model for promotion and compensation increases is seniority-based (although this has started to change since the '90s recession). Under that kind of incentive model, you might get similar results, with performance highest amongst new recruits while higher-ups

I think that Americans don't really feel all that guilty about taking time off. We tend to view paid time off as an entitlement, as part of our compensation in addition to salary and benefits. We have laws protecting that and in many companies your unused PTO gets paid out. Not a bad deal.

@PaintTheSkyGrey: Espresso was part of a previous Macheist bundle... Coda seems to be the holy grail though.
